Dear 888ladies (and 888gents)

Isn’t it great to be a woman? (Obviously I am not speaking from experience…:)) But what amazing people you are, your achievements, your beauty, your sexiness, your intelligence, the ability to give birth to children…. the whole package!! So there should be at least one day a year to celebrate this, and today, March 8th, is that day!!!

Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women’s Day (IWD) has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration of women across developed and developing countries alike. For decades, IWD has grown from strength to strength annually. For many years the United Nations has held an annual IWD conference to coordinate international efforts for women’s rights and participation in social, political and economic processes. In some countries like Russia, China and Bulgaria, is it even a National Holiday.

On 888ladies, we probably value our female members more than any other site, bingo or none bingo alike, and so we are going to have a massive celebratory party!

As we are on the blog here, let’s start with that! Over the last few days I have been asking for nominees for the Greatest  Woman for International Women’s Day 2010. The person who nominates the winner gets LPs; a roomie who voted for this winner will be drawn at random to also get LPs AND ANOTHER roomie who DIDN’T vote for the winner will ALSO get LPs…..remember, once you vote, write the name of your choice along with your alias as a comment at the bottom of the post. Dear 888ladies

Did you know that on 8th March, it is the 100th International Women’s Day world event? Starting in 1911, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

As you all know, women have come a long way in a short time, when in many Westernised countries there were considered to be second class citizens, in many countries throughout the world, women still are not treated equally. However, great improvements have been made. We have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family; women have real choices. And so the tone and nature of IWD has, for the past few years, moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades and more.

As we are 888ladies, after all, we LOVE the fact that we are full of amazing, empowered, beautiful ladies, we want to make 8th March EXTRA SPECIAL FOR YOU!

There will be LPs for the winning nomination of Monday’s poll and LPs for a roomie who votes in the poll and votes for the winning entry and LPs for a roomie who takes part in the poll and votes for fantastic historical lady who doesn’t win.
