Sir Cliff talks of ‘companion’
Sir Cliff talks of ‘companion’ Sir Cliff Richard has spoken out about his long-term friendship with a former Catholic priest who shares his home.
The veteran singer has long been dogged by rumours about his sexuality, but his new autobiography talks of the women that have been in his life.
Father John McElynn – who Cliff met seven years ago while on a trip to New York – is described as his "companion" in the new book.
He writes: "He hadn’t had any thought at the beginning of giving up the priesthood, but when it became clear he was thinking of the possibility, I suggested he might help me with some charitable projects.
"That was seven years ago and our arrangement has worked out really well. John now spends most of his time looking after my properties, which means I don’t have to."
William Hill Bingo players may remember that the singer had a relationship with tennis star Sue Barker, who he claims to have considered marrying.
