Tennant’s Hamlet sells out in under three hours
Tickets to see David Tennant take the led role in Hamlet have sold out in less than three hours, according to the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

Around 270 people camped outside London’s Novello Theatre to buy tickets, with some 6,000 being sold in total.

The Doctor Who star is playing Hamlet in the RSC production at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon along side Star Trek’s Sir Patrick Stewart.

"We’re very pleased that the play in is accruing so much interest," an RSC spokeswoman said.

"The great news for us is that it’s encouraging that younger contingent of theatre-goers, which is one of our real aims."

"David has been wonderful in encouraging those people to come," she said of Tennant.

William Hill Bingo players may be interested to learn that the RSC issued a statement saying fans would not be permitted to bring Doctor Who or Star Trek merchandise to be autographed at the performances.

Jacksons’ reunion misses Michael
The Jackson brothers came together to receive a lifetime achievement award from their sister Janet - all except Michael and Jermaine.

Marlon Jackson told the Associated Press he did not know where his younger brother Michael was: "I think he’s in Egypt riding a camel or something."

Sister Janet got tearful when announcing her brothers as winners of the award, saying that "family is the most important commodity all of us have".

When given his BMI Urban Icon award, Tito said the group was "very proud" of the influence their music has had, calling it "a great honour".

Along with the band members, father Joseph, mother Katherine and sisters LaToya and Rebbie attended the event.

The award is given to those who have had "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers".

It has been reported that Bryan Ferry is to receive the equivalent award at the BMI London event.

Hat trick for Britney at MTV awards
Despite being mocked for her comeback performance at last years’ event, Britney Spears was the belle of the ball at the MTV music awards, taking home three prizes.

The video [promo] for her song Piece of Me wowed the judges, winning Best Video, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video.

She had been nominated for MTV awards 16 times in the past but had never won.

While presenting her with one of the gongs, Paris Hilton said: "I love you. I miss you. And it’s so good to see you."

Upon receiving the awards, the southern star thanked "God first and foremost for just blessing me like this".

Other winners included the Pussycat Dolls, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Linkin Park.

Although last year he vowed to boycott the ceremony after missing out on all the categories he was nominated for, Kanye West performed at the event, as did Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis and Rihanna.

Britney Spears’s mother is set to release a book detailing the troubles she said the family went through during the singer’s rise to fame.

Elbow emerge as Mercury winners
Elbow’s fourth studio offering, The Seldom Seen Kid, has won the Nationwide Mercury Prize for Best British album.

The rock group were crowned with the prestigious title seven years after their first nomination for acclaimed debut album Asleep In The Back.

He dedicated the award to Brian Clancy, a friend of the band who died a few years ago and had inspired a number of the albums tracks.

Others nominated for the award included Radiohead, Estelle, Last Shadow Puppets, Adele, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, British Sea Power and Neon Neon.

Hailing from Bury, the band formed in 1990 and have released four albums.

The Seldom Seen Kid - produced, recorded and mixed by the band - reached number five in the UK album chart this year.
